Community Involvement - Beavers
On the 18/09/17 I started my community involvement for my Gaisce with the junior scout group In Rathmichael, Shankill .This is something I am very passionate about as I myself did Beavers and am now doing Scouts . When I arrived I could hear the roar of thirty children screaming as I entered the hall . When we started I was asked to run a quick game to entertain the kids while the Beaver leaders set up the other activites .
I was quite nervous as I tried to explain the rules to thirty very hyper young children , but it all went fine in the end and had no accidents . At the end of the night the beaver leader Vicky explained to me that the following week i would be taking charge of the 3rd classers and would be preparing them for the transition into Scouts in the next couple of motnhs . I was quite nervous but also excited to try and teach these kids about scouts and what they should be expecting and prepared for .

Personal Skill
Physical Recreation
I chose basketball as my physical recreation because earlier on in the year my friend had introduced me to it but I never fully committed to it as i could not make the time for it . I signed up for a fourteen week basketballl training course that was in Bray and I knew three other people who had also singed up for the course so i did not feel nervous going in to this . We started training by working on our ball hadnling which is something i was not very good at but hoped to improve by the end of the course . We took a small break and then went straight into a 5v5 live scrimmage . I was pretty happywith my performance during the game . but was still striving to be better.
Adventure (camping )
On the 13th of September right after receiving our Junior Cert results we all started our journey to the camping site at Lough Dan where we would be staying for two nights and the better part of three days . In preparation for the camping trip we had to bring our own food , supplies , tent , cooking equipment and hiking boots . This is something that I am quite adept at since I am in Scouts and have been preparing for camping and hiking since I was 5 and so i know what I need to pack and what i do not need to pack .
When we embarked on our excursion I had just received my exam results for my Junior Cert and since so was quite ecstatic and euphoric . As soon as we arrived at the campsite we immediately began to put up our tent . Thankfully for me the people who owned the tent knew how to put it up and was erected in minutes of starting , it was all very " In Tents " .
What I really enjoyed about the camping trip was the waking up in the moring to see everyone cooking sausages and rashers on tiny stoves it was so different and usually i only get to experience once a year on scout camp and was refreshinhg to do it with my school year .
I did not learn many new skills since I have been hiking and campig with scouts from around the age of five . Though that is not to say that i did not thoroughly enjoy myself . I loved the card that got way to pressurised for what they were . I loved the smell of the bonfire , but my favourite thing was going for a swim in the ice cold water in the lake .
